Establishing and using a home greenhouse is a very good way to save money on food, follow a healthier and more nutritious diet, save energy, and help the environment as well. But greenhouses don’t grow on trees – they have to be put together. Not all of us have a professional builder in the family, and we don’t all have the budget to hire a specialist.

This is where greenhouse kits come in handy. If you aren’t looking for elaborate design but you need a simple and basic greenhouse for home use, this is a great way to get one set up without a large investment of time or money.

Greenhouse kits vary widely in cost and design. A very simple and economical type of greenhouse can be found for under $40.00 or $50.00. This small structure might consist of nothing more than a two-foot square tent of fabric where you can house a few plants and extend their growing season.

In this price-range, you might also find a basic enclosure system for a greenhouse, which will provide a framework and support that can then be covered in the material of your choice.

Moving up the line, you can find more serious setups for anywhere between $400 and $900, which would include either glass or fabric walls, and provide enough space to grow a full set of vegetables or other plants. Larege greenhouses, from 10 to 20 square feet in size, can cost a few thousand dollars. But this might still be much simpler than building the entire structure from scratch.

Once you’ve found and purchased the greenhouse kit that’s right for you, you will need to assemble it yourself. (It is, after all, a kit.) But you will have step-by-step instructions, and all the parts you need, cut and sized to fit, and tested by the manufacturers.

While setting up a greenhouse requires an investment of money and time, you should be able to gradually recoup your investment, providing that you actually utilize your greenhouse. The amount of money that can be saved by growing one’s own food is easy to underestimate – particularly where large families are concerned.

Growing food inside a greenhouse is extroverting, fun, and educational. It can make it possible for you to grow your garden at all times of the year, instead of being limited to certain seasons. Going out and buying gardening equipment and seeds can be frustrating when you get so busy with work that by the time you’re ready to work on your garden, it is too late in the year.

A greenhouse can give you the extra leeway you need, and make it possible to have fresh home-grown vegetables year-round. It might also make it possible for you to grow the plants which normally wouldn’t grow in your climate at all. Such as – who knows, chilli peppers in Maine?

Growing plants indoors can be an enjoyable hobby, but it will require some time and commitment, and you will need to know the proper soil, lighting and temperature for the plant you wish to grow. Additionally, there are several methods of growing plants in pots.

Before you do anything else, inspect the area where you plan to grow your plants. You must place the potted plant in an area where it will get several hours of natural sunlight every day. You can also use artificial lighting if you have the budget for it. Special indoor lights and lamps are available that you can use to replace natural sunlight. Ensure that your home’s temperature is ideal for the plant, since this is the easiest factor to control.

Match your potted plant with an appropriate container. If a plant is large or will grow large, your container should be able to accommodate it. Stunted growth of the roots and the inability to “breathe” properly can result from putting a big plant in a small pot. Similarly, small plant will usually look odd if placed in a large pot, although it may grow large enough to fit the pot. Instead, you should start your plant in a small pot, transplanting it to a larger one when it outgrows the smaller size. You can also choose from various styles and sizes. The diameter of the container should be half the height of the plant. Ensure the pot has drainage holes in the bottom, so that the roots will not drown.

Look for the proper soil or growing medium next. Because it is unable to drain properly, garden soil is typically unsuitable. Further, fungi or insects that might be harmful to the plant could be in the garden soil. Choose a packaged potting soil that can hold moisture while aerating the plant’s roots.

When the plant should be watered can be affected by several factors. Among these factors are the type of plant you’re growing as well as heat, wind, rain and sun.

You should water most plant regularly, although not to the drowning point. However, aloe vera and other desert plants may do better when you allow the soil to dry out rather than flooding them with water. This makes some desert varieties ideal for people who have a hard time remembering to water their plants regularly. The amount of water any plant needs can vary each day.

Compared to plants that grow in the ground, potted plants dry up more quickly. By sticking your finger into the soil, you can determine if the plant needs water. If it is dry, then it needs to be watered.

In general, you should fertilize potted plants every two weeks. You flush the nutrients from the growing medium when you water a plant. Use organic fertilizers if you are growing edible plants or those for medicinal or personal purposes, or if you have children or pets in the house.

As a note, some plants are poisonous to animals or humans. Properly research a plant’s risks before you bring it into your home if you have pets or children. (See Pets and Plant Poisoning for more information on this.)

When you grow a plant in or around your home, you should do what you can to protect it from destructive pests. Even if you house it indoors, insects can still find ways into the home and destroy your plant. Use one of the organic pesticides on the market to combat this problem.

Regardless of the environment (in a garden, inside the home, on a balcony or patio), growing potted plants can be worthwhile and rewarding. Potted plants can provide herbs for teas or natural remedies, edible fruits and vegetables, fragrance, or simply decoration.

As is the case with any gardening project, growing indoor plants does require a bit of study and application of standard practices and proper growing techniques, but this will become easier with practice, and will be well worth the trouble.

Earth friendly products are goods and services that don’t have a negative impact on the environment either in the manufacturing process or the consume. Such items are easy to recognize by the eco-labels, nevertheless, not everybody will get the same exposure to earth friendly products. Unfortunately, many people lack green education and they have no familiarity with the concept of earth friendly products. Plus, there is no international standard for the concept, which makes things a bit difficult when it comes to implementing an-all valid green regulation. Sometimes the environmental specifications on the labels are not enough to increase consumer awareness and more needs to be done.

earth friendly cleaning products

Earth friendly products have started to receive a growing attention on the market. The consumers’ awareness increases slowly but surely, which means that in time, lots of environmentally harmful products will be banned for good. Momentarily, organic food has become subject to intense advertising campaigns. People who suffer from chronic ailments, children or pregnant women are the first to enjoy the advantages of non-toxic food. Nevertheless, the range of earth friendly products is a lot wider than we may ever suspect, and the complexity goes a lot farther than the bio-degradable bags we get at the supermarket.

earth friendly product

You can shop for earth friendly products according to a multitude of categories such as green building, clothing, green living, green cleaning, bath and body, natural pet care, appliances, toys, gifts, furniture, food and a lot more. Some items are now widely available on the shelves of the supermarkets, but others can only be purchased online. All you need to do is search for them. You can first find some information on the Internet, and then check the local supply store to see whether they have the items available.

earth friendly products

With earth friendly products, there is no toxicity for the body or the environment. Raw materials, no toxic dies or toxic chemicals: this is what defines such items best. Although we can only speak of diversity but not of predominance on the market, earth friendly products do have a promising future. The higher the demand, the more generous the offer. Plus, eco-friendly products have the support of international organizations such as Greenpeace that contribute to the conservation, regeneration and protection of the planet’s environment.

We have got used to relying on a whole range of chemical products for the cleaning of our homes and offices without paying attention to how harmful such substances can be for the health or the environment.Paint, oil, grease, germs, stains and blotches are the nightmare of cleaning and the enemies of good health, and people use very powerful agents to eliminate the problem. However, with the development of the environmental awareness, some companies have started producing eco-friendly cleaning products. Organic solvents and powerful cleaning agents can also be derived from vegetables and plant ingredients, and here we have the solution for eco-friendly cleaning.

eco friendly cleaning tips

It is false to assume that eco-friendly cleaning products cannot eliminate resistant spots and stains such as nail polish, wax, ball-point ink, glue, resins or dyes from solid or textile surfaces. Even in the absence of toxic solvents, there is no compromise in terms of efficiency, because high-quality eco-friendly cleaning solutions do a great job. We try to clean and remove the dirt that surrounds us by soiling air and water. What are the advantages of switching to eco-friendly cleaning? First of all your home will be clean from toxic fumes and chemicals, you will sleep better and enjoy a great sense of well-being.

eco friendly home cleaning

There will be less health hazards for children and babies who may come in contact with toxic cleaning residues. Plus, you get to replace toxic spray bottles for good. With eco friendly cleaning, you can say goodbye to home poisons. Send the hazardous substances to a recycling facility and get some safer versions instead. Eco-friendly cleaning provides a safer environment for your children. Moreover, the fewer chemicals you use, the fewer toxic materials will be evacuated in the waste water stream. The alternative to the readymade eco-friendly cleaning products is the use of homemade solutions.

eco friendly cleaning

You can find eco-friendly cleaning tips on the Internet as many web sites promote green cleaning. Not only the cleaning agents should be changed with eco products, but the cleaning accessories as well. The mops, rags and sponges should be all natural and reusable. Be careful about the durability of the products, about their health and environmental impact. This kind of changes will also bring considerable savings.

One interesting fact about Waste Vegetable Oil is that the US produces over 100 million gallons a year. Filtered Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) can be used straight in diesel vehicles with conversion kits, or can be refined into bio-diesel – also usable in vehicles. Bio-diesel refining involves some toxic substances – methanol for example – and reduces the cost differential between conventional and recycled fuel. Due to the fact that gas reserves are going to disappear, using wvo is a good alternative. One wvo recycling company in Colorado EPR inc. has an oil gathering service that will gather restaurant or food service WVO on a regular basis for free. Many companys make arrangements with restaurants/food service to collect and re-use WVO (with or without further refinement) in their converted cars. WVO burned in diesel trucks will help to reduce the greenhouse gasses that the trucks produced every year. The recent fuel prices are cause for ingenious ways to act responsible environmentally speaking and one way, is to use waste vegetable oil as a renewable supply of fuel for vehicles. There are so many benefits of using this well to replace fossil fuels and some of these include reduced air pollution, concentrated greenhouse gas emissions, and conservation of limited fossil fuels. There are two ways you can use waste vegetable oil in truck engines. The first way is that you can use straight vegetable oil either waste frying oil or fresh- pressed oil, however you will need an extra fuel tank and a system for heating and filtering the oil before it reaches the engine. The reason why you will need this is because pure vegetable oil is too thick to work in the engine unless the oil is heated up. Once wvo is converted to Bio-Diesel, diesel trucks can run on the fuel without modifications. Bio-diesel is a fuel well that can be made from waste vegetable oil when a chemical reaction is induced between methanol and lye. You can create it from waste vegetable oil that can be collected from most restaurants, or you can use fresh pressed oil but that can be costly. World wide this is being produced today to be sold on the commercial market, due to the fact that anyone can get the right equipment it can even be made in your home. Some of the toxic air pollutants that are reduced include soot, particulates, carbon monoxide, and sulphur oxides, however nitrous oxide emissions may increase slightly.

Water is a unique and fascinating substance! Everyone knows that life cannot exit apart from the presence of clean, liquid water. While we are able to live several weeks without food, we can only live days without water. Recent tests on the moon were designed to detect any presence of water, for eventual colonization would be impossible without it.

The earth is not short of water as such. The 326 million trillion gallons of water on earth divided by the current population, 5.8 billion, reveals that we have 56 billion gallons apiece. For sanitation, bathing, and cooking needs, the average person in the world has a daily requirement of about 13.2 gallons of water. Thus we have enough water down here to last each of us over 11 million years (not counting population growth)! That doesn’t take into consideration the free recycling system provided for us called evaporation and condensation.

The problem is that most of this water is unusable in its present form. Ninety-eight percent of the water on the planet is ocean salt water. Of the 2% of the planet’s fresh water, 1.6% is locked up in the polar ice caps and glaciers. Another 0.36% is found underground in aquifers and wells. Only about .036% of the planet’s total water supply is found in lakes and rivers. This is still 392 million gallons each, but that isn’t much compared with the 56 billion gallons we could have. But even of that, less than 1% of the total fresh water, (and 0.007% of all water on earth,) is accessible for our use.

The problem is bad also because useable water is not evenly available to the world population. The average American uses more water taking a five-minute shower than the typical person living in a slum in a developing country uses in a whole day. Nearly one billion people of the world do not have access to safe water. Nearly one billion people of the world lack access to safe water. Also 2.5 billion do not have improved sanitation, meaning they do not have a means to separate drinking water from waste water.

Insufficient sanitary drinking water throughout the world brings with it major health issues. As many as half of all people in hospital beds at any given time are there because of a water related disease. On average a child dies from a water-related disease every 15-20 seconds in the world, and the usual cause is diarrhea. That adds up to a staggering 1.4 million children each year. The children in these environments often carry 1,000 parasitic worms in their bodies because of stagnant water supplies. Think of it: 88% of the cases of diarrhea worldwide are caused by unsafe water, inadequate sanitation, or insufficient hygiene.

Polluted water brings death, but also an increase in disease, crime, birth defects, and decreased ability to concentrate in school. In short, general economic decline is the result. An investment in pure water for a people, or in desalination of the sea, is an investment with big returns. On average, every US dollar invested in water and sanitation for a third world people provides an economic return for them of eight US dollars.

Some would have us in the west feel guilty for taking a shower or watering our lawns. This is faulty thinking. Lowering our living standard only borrows their problems. America has good, clean water because we have learned where to find or clean it, and how to preserve it. Our response to criticism should not be guilt but better stewardship and an increased willingness to share our knowledge with others. When our sources of water are conserved and maintained, we set a high standard for others to follow.

But what if you are on well water or city water that has bad taste or odors. You would be benefited by an activated charcoal water filter. The Berkey Water Filter are the best line of activated charcoal filter we are aware of. Check out the Crown Berkey or another model. One amazing feature is that each set of filters they ship with can be re-cleaned to purify up to 6,000 gallons of drinking water.

If you live in an area that experiences long, harsh winters you may want to know if solar panels would work on your home. After all, this is a technology that relies on the sun in order to work efficiently.

But the past 10 years have brought much innovation and progress to solar panel technology. Now this technology has progressed to the point that solar panels can easily create electricity even on cloudy, snowy or rainy days.

Is There Any Risk Using Solar Panels in Winter? Find Out Here!

If yours is an off grid system that works separately of a energy utility system, your solar power system should include a set of back-up batteries. These batteries are like the ones used in cars. They are designed to store any excess power that your solar panels make during the sunny part of the day. If your battery storage system is properly designed for your region, it will include the right number of these batteries to store electricity for the number of overcast days that are usual for where you live.

If you have a system that is connected to the grid of your local electric utility company, then you won’t require support batteries. When the sun disappears at night, or there’s a spell of inclement weather where you don’t see the sun for days, your power system will automatically get electricity from your local energy company. You’ll still be getting the benefit of lower power bills because on sunny days your electricity will be coming from your own solar panels.

See The Energy 2 Green Review on Making Solar Panels

In some areas, you may even be able to sell electricity back to your local power company. This arrangement makes solar power even more cost effective. The way this is set up is that unused electricity generated by your solar panels goes back into the grid and you received credit for it on your account. That way, even if you need to use electricity from the grid at night or on overcast days, any unused power that your solar panels were able to generate will still be lowering your overall utility bills.

is the world hcnaging for the better? There are so many people out there looking for greener options and ways to save money which is why wahsing machines are being looked into. This isn’t just for the home either; many companies are looking for greener commercial washing machine and commercial dishwashers.

So is there anything on the way for the washing machine or is it set to be replaced by something new and better? Well washing machines are supposed to be getting a complete overhaul by 2030 according to many sources. Ultrasonic washing machines are apprently to become the norm in peoples homes. So what is an ultrasonic washing machine?

Well apparently they run with nearly no water and the only part water is needed is at the beginning. Getting the detergant off of the clothes is not easy to do which is why water is needed to wash it away from the clothing. The new ultasonic machines will actually send out sound waves onto the clothes at a very powerful speed which in turn rips the detergant away from the clothes. It is unclear if this method is going to be suitable for all types of clothes or just the ones that can survive a bit of a beating.

This idea is not new and was almost laughed at back in the 80s. However with energy prices soaring through the roof and the worlds resources looking very thing, companies are looking for solutions like this to have in their commercial laundry equipment.

It is also said that the spin on these washing machines will be strong enough to power things like the dishwasher and that our future showers will be powered by recycled rainwater. If you think about it the water that we use for out showers is actually recycled already it just gos through a lot of stages to make it clean?

This will only really takeover from the normal washing machine if people are saving money in the long run?

However If you want to build your own Car using Solar Power - Green Energy Source

Most cars are powered by fossil fuel or better known as Gas.There is do much volatitlity in the price of oil and it is not even a renewable energy source. It is going to be gone one day… Yes, Gone!!.The countries that have all of these resources are ripping our money out of our pockets as we lean back and pump this junk into our cars and then into the air we breath. I believe that we have to do something before it’s too late. Given that solar energy, a green energy source can be used to power a community, you can also do this on a small scale by using the same principles to build your own car. Sounds like an impossible task right?

But what do you need to make this work? A lot of things but the two most important are the solar array and the batteries. The solar array is very important as it collects the sun rays and converts it into electical energy. There is the prefabricated type and the individeual kind that you have to set up yourself.

You can get branded parts from places like Siemens and ASE Americas they sell terrestrial grade cells and the space grade cells. Terrestial grade is the lower end and it does produce a significant amount of power.

You must complete the wiring properly in order to make sure your vehicle keeps moving even if one of the panels stops working. The voltage of the solar array should match the system voltage of your motor, you should not to worry because it will still run.

The battery is so important because all of the energy captured will be stored in the batter until use. There are a few options in batteries and they are lead acid, lithium-ion or nickel-cadmium.The voltage of the engine determines how many you will have to buy. After purchasing these two parts, you are going to have to connect them to your engine. Do you know how to do this.So you know how much juice is left in your batteries, you will also need to install instrumentation similar to the heads up display console on regular cars which tells you your speed, mileage and gas.

If you are not into building things you may not even create a vehichle that works. So why would you take on this type of task if you could simply purchase a hybrid car. Using hybrid vehicles is much better than using the standard vehicle and there are cars that can go many miles on one gallon of gas. Take the Toyota Prius as an example. They have tested this vehicle on 2 gallons of gas and they traveled 100 miles and still did not run out of gas.Adam Carolla took on this challenge only a few weeks ago and was featured on SPEED television.

Well I guess my point here is that you can build your own solar powered car and drive around with a large solar panel on the top of your car or you can take advantage of the new technology being provided by the car industry and drive a hybrid car.
